  Page Hit Counter

Count.cgi

Count.cgi is now the preferred counter program for Corpex customers. This program allows you to have page hit counters and date/time information on your Web page easily.

If you are still using an older counter, such as nph-count, please consider upgrading to our new service, you will find it more efficient, more reliable and more flexible!

The Basics

Count.cgi has the following features:

· No need to have server side includes
· Image strip are used rather than individual digits, increasing performance
· Monitoring state, so checking on your hits will not increase their values
· The counter can be rotated through increments of 90 degrees
· Frames can be used to outline your image
· More reliable
· Anti-spam features - no longer can someone hit reloads often to increase hits artificially

Digit Styles

Different image files can be used, allowing almost all web sites to have a counter image in a style that will fit in with the overall design.

There are literally hundreds of image styles available. We offer a large selection for you to choose from, but please let us know if you find others that you think others would find suitable.

Your First Counter

The most basic form of the counter looks something like this:

<img src="/cgi/Count.cgi?df=USERNAME.PAGENAME.dat">

This simply calls the counter program and specifies the data file to store the results in; here is an example, using the default arguments:

PLEASE NOTE: Your website is located on a shared server and the ONLY person who can ensure that a datafile is unique is YOU. Please make sure your username is included in the data file specification, this will guarantee that you are the only person with a file of that name.

We will be periodically checking data file names to ensure they are unique.

More Counter Options

The following options can be added to the counter in any order to change how it works for you. Try experimenting with these for different effects.

timezone=X Specify the time zone you are in The value should be GMT + or - a value, so in New York, you would want time zone=GMT-0500
